About Berry de Mey

Berry de Mey (1962) is the most successful bodybuilder that ever came from the Netherlands. After he got acquainted with weight training through practicing martial arts, he soon started to focus on bodybuilding. It only took him weeks to realize he wanted to become world champion. He was not just pushed by a desire to become very big and muscular, but also by his passion for aesthetics. He aspired, especially looking at it from a modern perspective, to create a body that was symmetrical as well as big and muscular.

De Mey was enormously successful therein. He became European champion in 1982, and world champion in 1985 at the IFBB World Games. After that victory, he participated in Mr. Olympia four times, the most important bodybuilding contest ever. International reporters started calling De Mey 'The Flexing Dutchman', a title he never lost. In 1988 De Mey won bronze at Olympia.

After he had appeared on dozens of covers of fitness and bodybuilding magazines, and starred in numerous other photo essays, De Mey decided to end his career in professional bodybuilding in 1994. He started to focus on photography with the same passion he had before directed at his sport. And it took only a while before De Mey could truthfully say that his second career was successful as well.

Throughout the years, De Mey continued his weight training and kept up his knowledge of nutrition and sports supplements. He also continued his diet, which made him one of the world's best bodybuilders. And the world changed. More and more people got interested in weight lifting and aimed for a physique like De Mey had like no other in the eighties. An increasing number of people struggled with their weight and were looking for solutions that De Mey had already found decades ago. It was inevitable that in 2010 Berry de Mey Nutrition was born.

'Always realize that, no matter what you do, it is basically about love' De Mey tells everyone he coaches, 'because only then you can reach your true goal.
